Getting Ready...

Like most of you, I am busy getting ready to homeschool five children this year. Two will be in Kindergarten. One in 2nd grade and one in 1st. Lexi will be entering 10th grade this year. To be sure they are all ready for the school year, yesterday the girls took assessment tests that I purchased through Rod n Staff.

This year we are doing a new program - Classical Conversations. You can click on the logo below the photos to learn all about this wonderful program. Our four children will be doing the Foundations Program until approximately 4th grade then they will move up to Essentials.

They will be learning grammar, Latin, history, science, math, art and music one day a week at school that I attend with them. Then we will review what they learn the other four days. I will be doing Rod-n-Staff grammar with Abigail and Jordan at home, along with a math program I found while doing a search on Amazon for something else we needed this year.

We will focus on their reading skills at home as well. This year they will log how many books they individually read and write a short paragraph about each book. I will have them write why they liked or disliked the book and a sentence or two about the story.

The children take voice and piano lessons weekly in our home.

I'm looking into a local gym for them to attend a gymnastics class, especially for Gabriel and Abigail who are so naturally athletic.

We will continue doing our daily devotional each morning and dig deeper into His word as a family.

We are all excited to see what God has for us this year.

Lexi will be attending Educating our Children for His Objectives (ECHO) which is a local homeschool group. She will be taking Physics and English Lit there this year. I will be teaching her history. She will be using Teaching Textbooks for math. I will be offering a HS Art class for her and other local children. She will be attending Scott's HS Bible class - they are doing a New Testament Survey for the year. This will prepare her for where she feels God calling her - into full-time ministry work with children around the world. She plans on attending Bible College after she graduates HS. We look forward to seeing how God uses all of her artistic talents for His glory.

I'll be busy laminating the next few weeks and will show you all that we put together for the school year. Until then, be blessed and enjoy the final weeks of summer!

  1. I am so thankful that I found both your blogs. This is our first year homeschooling and I am thankful to find others who are already experienced. I am excited and yet nervous about this year. I look forward to following with you.

  2. I just stumbled across your blog. I thought it was very fun to discover we have a few things in common. I have 7 children. My oldest is Lexy who also turns 15 this summer. My next daughter is Abigael who is 9. You have a lovely family. I have a blog but I don't post much. I will check back to see what fun things you are up to.

  3. you said: Like most of you, I am busy getting ready to homeschool five children this year.

i say: FIVE? lol....i can barely handle the ONE i'm doing now. i can't imagine how much planning you have to do for so many different grade levels....more power to you! how do you organize/plan out what you will do?

  4. Hi Jill,

I forgot your email address and when I click on your email link my computer won't set up for it for some unknown reason.

So I am writing to you here. It's been on my heart for awhile but I was wondering if you would consider guest speaking on my blog about homeschooling. It's been on my heart for quite awhile but I just don't feel that I have what it takes with just two kids; TWO!

So if you're okay with it I'll set up my questions and if you give me your email than I'll send it to you for you to answer and have you as a guest on my blog about homeschooling. I just don't know how you do it. I am such an imperfect mom next to how I view you. I had Crossway's homeshcool ask me if I would review one of their homeschool books and write a blog about it which I agree to. This was ironic because I had already been considering homeschooling my kids and then they contacting me through my blog 'Contact Us' tab. Well not maybe inonic, but God-ronic.

Take some time and please let me know if you'll consider doing this through my blog.

And of course I'll link your 'The Excellence of Wisdom' in the conversation to visit this site here.

This has been so much on my heart that it is now 2:22AM and I awoke just to write you.

Many blessings to you my friend,

Thank you for visiting my site! I love reading what you have to say! If you have a question, then please click on my CONTACT up top and I will get back to you ASAP. Again, thank you and God bless!
