Totally Terrific Tuesday – El Roi

Psalm 100

Today we are to reflect on Genesis 16:1-4

  • Praise God:      For His eye is on the sparrow.
  • Offer Thanks:   For God’s watchful care.
  • Confess:            Any tendency to accuse God of abandoning you.
  • Ask God:           To increase your awareness of His presence.

So much has hit me already with this week’s study of El Roi.   Like the following:

Hagar was unhappy with her circumstance so she ran away.  She didn’t like how she was being treated.  Hagar thought she deserved more.

Isn’t that exactly what so many of us do?  We aren’t content with where God has us or given us, so we decide to go find it and get it ourselves.

Or we don’t trust in God’s provision for us and we begin to doubt just how much we mean to Him, that He cares, that He sees, that He knows, and that He understands.  Not to mention He is giving us exactly what we do NEED at that moment – perfectly to help us grow in our faith, all for our good and His glory.

We see the trials in our lives coming and we begin to pray that God will remove them.  We ask God to help us avoid the seasons of trouble, financial burden, sickness and relationship issues.   We ask God to provide a way out.

How many of us with joy truthfully ask God to simply provide the grace to get through it?  How many of us truly thank Him for the season He has allowed or brought into our lives?  How many of us see that God is at work and He has not left us and will get us through in ways we can’t even imagine?

I don’t believe many live that way – because of our incorrect image of God!

We don’t see Him as Elohim and El Roi enough!    When it doesn’t fit our circumstances we imagine Him so much smaller and pray for our strength to be increased.  Which is exactly against His will for us – because it is us doing the fixing, finding, etc.  He wants to supply for all of our needs –great and small.

When these seasons come that are difficult to wait on God and listen for His soft small voice – the best thing to do is get as close to Him as you can!  To be reminded daily by His truth and every word that He is right in the middle of your circumstances with you.   No matter how great or small.  No matter how hard or scary.  No matter how long or short the season may be.  He is there!

Too often He is left outside our door softly knocking, calling to us, hoping we will open the door to our hearts and lives so He can enter and begin to give us rest, peace, hope, joy and the most amazing gift of all His never changing, or ending LOVE!

We get so wrapped up in our circumstances and how bad we feel that we can’t imagine Him being there with us.  We allow our feelings to rule the decisions we are making and how we are acting and reacting to our circumstances.   Sadly when our emotions are ruling our lives our faith is not being expressed.   It is impossible to give God the glory when we are focused on us rather than Him.

The children and I have been working on speaking God’s truth to each other – to stop the lie we are believing or doing – one that makes so much sense to all of us right now is Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters.”   You and I can’t serve ourselves and God.  We can’t let money be our constant focus.  It goes on to say, “Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.”  We are either seeking God and all He has for us or we are not.  That simple.   We are either willing to trust and obey no matter the cost or we are not.   We are either willing to be content right where He has us knowing that it is for our good or we are not.   We are either desire to be a friend of God’s or His enemy.   Proverbs 17:17 says, “A friend loves at all times.”

God is so loving He will NEVER force Himself upon us.  He has given us free will so that we may choose to serve and honor Him.  He wants us to know that He is there and will do everything in His power to care for us – but we must ask Him to do it.  He will NOT take over our lives.  He will not demand you to listen to Him.  He will not demand that you trust and obey Him.   It is up to us each and every single day.  He will not make you believe.  That is up to you.

But!  If you want Him to show you how real He is – simply ask.  He will answer.

You can trust that He is there.  No matter what He is there!  He is waiting and ready to be the Lord of your life to meet all of your needs, love you like no one ever will or can, give you peace, rest, joy, hope and strengthen you by His power!   His mercy will wash you clean!  His grace will overcome you!   His love will overtake you!   You can count on it!

What are you waiting for?  You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

Because God who sees the sparrow fall – knows your name, every hair on your head and the number of your years!

Proverbs 15:3 says, “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Watching the evil and the good.

Psalm 121:3-8 says,

3He will not allow your foot to slip;
         He who keeps you will not slumber.
4Behold, He who keeps Israel
         Will neither slumber nor sleep.
5The LORD is your keeper;
         The LORD is your shade on your right hand.
6The sun will not smite you by day,
         Nor the moon by night.
7The LORD will protect you from all evil;
         He will keep your soul.
8The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in
From this time forth and forever.

Habakkuk 3:19 says, “The Lord GOD is my strength,
         And He has made my feet like hinds' feet,
         And makes me walk on my high places.
         For the choir director, on my stringed instruments

I encourage you to read and begin to memorize Psalm 139.  Let His truth bathe you in hope knowing the El Roi, the God who sees is with you no matter what is happening in your life or where you are right now.  He knows.  He sees.  He understands.  He loves you!

Remember I told you last week about these amazing CD’s?   Well they arrived and I have been listening to all five of them.

Seeds of Faith (Vol. 2)

Sure they will be great for your children to learn bible verses – but you and your husband will enjoy the music too.   They are that good!  The best part is – they believe in paying it forward.  Each CD comes with two CD’s in the package.  You keep one and pass one on to bless someone else!  How cool is that?   Well, I am giving away all 5 CD’s.  So that means 5 of you will win one CD and can pass on a great CD to a friend!    I trust you will be like me and want all 5, once you have one of them.   I was dancing and singing along with them while out with Lilly yesterday.   We both love them!   Not to mention it feels good singing the word of God!  It is a wonderful way to hide God’s word in our hearts!  There is power in His word.  Freedom!  Joy!  Peace!  Hope!  Love!  Encouragement!

To enter this give-away you must follow along our blog – there are 242 of you!  So now is an awesome time to come out of lurking to say hello.   One comment per person in this post and I will select 5 winners on Friday morning.

PS The weather has been amazing the last few days and we have been soaking up the SONshine!  The girls all learned how to ride two wheel bikes in one day.  I will share photos later this week of them mastering this fun skill.  The boys are mastering their new bikes too – the Strider…we were sent two free as a gift from the company right before all the snow came.   Let’s just say they are a huge blessing!   I put them together in less than five minutes each.   Check them out if you have toddlers or young children who need a little help mastering balance before riding a two wheel bike alone.   We don’t really like training wheels and if you check out this bike you will learn why they slow down learning this skill vs. helping build confidence in your children!   Wait until you see the videos of 18 month old children zooming around!!!!   Jonathan who is 6 and not our strongest athlete LOVES it and the confidence it has given him has been a HUGE blessing.  He won’t be afraid to try his big boy bike in a few more days alone!
