Teen Talk Tuesday – Purity

I've been anticipating this day for a while now and I'm honored to be a part of Teen Talk Tuesday. I truly believe that God has great things in store for you, the youth of this generation, if you will truly surrender to Him.

Before we dive in, I want you to know that I expect great things from you.  God calls us all to be holy...

"As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, 'You shall be holy, for I am holy.'" 1 Peter 1: 14-16

...and He expects us to strive for holiness that is only found through the cross of Jesus Christ.

Now that we know what God expects from us, let's jump in...

One of the main areas that God expects holiness is through purity. From the beginning of time, God's perfect design for man and woman was purity; in thought and action. Of course, this all began with Adam and Eve...

"So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the LORD God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said,

'This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man'

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.” Genesis 2: 21-25

Unfortunately, when Adam and Eve fell into temptation in the Garden of Eden, it set the tone for the sinful nature of our lives today.

But, we have a promise, in the cross of Jesus Christ, that allows us to look ahead to His second coming, and gives us renewed hope for perfect lives. I want to encourage you today through a few areas:

God's Word Prohibits Sexual Activity Before Marriage

The boundaries set forth in 1 Corinthians 7: 1-9 are for your good. God's perfect plan ensures us true happiness and satisfaction in our marriages if we are obedient to His word, where He calls us to absolute purity.

In order to accomplish the goal of absolute purity we must take note of Colossians 3: 1-5...

"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on the earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry."

As discussed above, we are a fallen people and we can not and will not seek to do the things of God without seeking His face.

How can we expect to be sexually pure if our hearts and minds aren't pure also? We can't...

In order to have pure hearts, we must have pure minds. In Psalm 101: 2-3 David says,

"I will ponder the way that is blameless.

Oh when will you come to me?

I will walk with integrity of heart within my house;

I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless.

I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me."

What is it that you are setting before your eyes (your ears, your mind) today? Is it good, noble, honest, and true? In order to have a pure heart and mind, we must get rid of the filth that we are allowing our eyes to see and our ears to hear.

I challenge you today to go through your music and throw away every vile thing, to censor the TV shows you watch, the books you read, and the friends you hang out with. Each and every one of these things has an impact on the purity of your heart.

And last, I encourage you to have an accountability partner. I have set up an accountability partner for each of the girls in my youth group, and I'm holding each one of them accountable to hold each other accountable! We have to have true friends within the body of Christ that are going to care about us enough to hold us accountable for our actions.

Parents, especially mother's, I encourage you to purchase a copy of Feminine Appeal: Seven Virtues of a Godly Wife and Mother by Carolyn Mahaney. This book has transformed my view of who God calls me to be as a Godly wife and mother-to-be.

Teens, you are the next generation that can either choose purity for the sake of Christ or choose impurity for the sake of the world. I'm praying for you and with you that you will choose to shake this world for the cause of Christ!

Join us next Tuesday (September 21) when Lexi shares a teenage perspective of purity.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts…

God’s richest blessings!

Thank you Christie for joining us to help lead this generation toward the goal of Christ Jesus!  I am so thankful to have you standing with us and anticipate great things to come from the youth and parents reading this feature every week!

My prayer is that you are all sharing these posts with every teen you know, your youth group leaders, pastors, grandparents and spouses.  We are all in this together – one body in Christ Jesus!
