Another Fix | N. Virginia Photographer

I seriously can’t say enough about the group of photographers that I have the pleasure of meeting with each month.   It has been such a huge blessing to me organizing our two groups and working together to build a strong community.   We spent 3 hours together this Sunday at a local studio in Dulles, VA, learning from Paul Pruitt about studio lighting.   This is the last step on my journey to mastering light.   I bought all the equipment I needed for my studio and have been waiting for the right moment to really kick it up a notch.  Well, this Sunday was just the right spice to give it the BAM factor.   If you look up at the scrolling headers you will see one of my favorite shots from the workshop.  Krystle was an amazing model.  She is a beautiful person from the inside out and she is also a wedding photographer.  She did her own hair and make-up, and wore her original wedding gown.  Which is absolutely stunning in person.  It made her look like an angel.

Paul was a wonderful teacher and fun to work with.   He has been in the industry for over 20 years and is now in the process of rebranding his entire business.   It was neat listening to his story, and how he has evolved with the ever changing photography industry.   I’m excited to watch his new lighting workshops bless many who want to master this amazing skill set.

The cool thing for me was that I could apply all that Cliff Mautner taught me a year ago about light and how to use it.   So as I posed the models I was looking for the exact same thing I do when using only natural light.   I was able to recreate many of the same shots I captured last year, only this time the lighting was in my complete control.   That allowed me to create the glamour shots I had in my mind fairly easily.   Once I understood all the pieces of the puzzle, putting it together felt very natural.   I actually ran from one side of the studio to the other with so much excitement after capturing a few shots of Krystle that Paul and the owner of the studio were giggling right along with me.

God, truly used this past weekend to confirm the journey I am on now with rebranding my business and building my project so that many can be blessed.

Now onto some behind the scenes photos.   I’ll get to the good stuff throughout the week.   I promise you will want to keep coming back to see what you can create with just one strobe (I personally use AB400’s in my studio and love them).

The majority of my shots are SOOC – just like I shot them.  Only a few needed minor edits and then of course I love using my B&W presets in LR.

Paul is front and center.  Then in the back row is our gorgeous couple modeling their traditional African wedding outfits.  Then you can see Krystle to the left of Paul.

We really do have a good time together.  The only one missing is Greg, who doesn’t like to be in any of our group shots, but loves to take the photo for us.  Hmmmm?  I think we need to change something next time!   Just sayin’

For Okey and Leslie’s shots we used one beauty dish – then behind them had two soft boxes hitting the backdrop to make it white.  Then we turned those off and were able to capture them on what looked like a grey background.

Here is a fun shot of the group working it!  Up on the ladder in the stripe shirt is our oldest daughter Lexi who ROCKS her camera (she uses a Canon T3i – which disproves you need the best of the best to capture gorgeous shots – you only need to master what you have).

OK, you two need to stop being so fierce!  They are an amazing couple whose love is contagious to be around!  Doesn’t Okey look like a famous actor?   Anyway, here is what the white background looked like with the back two soft boxes turned off.

Then I walked over to where the group was beginning to photograph Krystle.  In this side of the studio they used only one AB and a reflector.  Then we moved to the other wall and used on AB in a softbox.  I can’t wait to show you what I was able to capture with this set-up.  I’m in love with every shot and this is the style I’m going to be shooting from this point out.  Glamour and elegance are coming back – to all my female friends and family – it is time to see yourselves in a new way.   Are you ready to come for a visit in my studio?

You are just going to have to trust me on this – the ones that go with the shot below are magical.  Truly breathtaking and glamorous.  I can’t wait to share more from this amazing workshop!

OK, so now who is ready to spend an hour with me in the studio being reminded just how beautiful you are from the inside out?   I’m looking for grandmothers, mothers, sisters, friends, and teen girls to come experience the I AM BEAUTIFUL PROJECT.

If you are interested, simply send me an email with the words “glamour I AM BEAUTIFUL PROJECT” and I will get back to ASAP.  Are you an adoptive mother and have wanted to capture your children with you?   Then now is the time to take advantage of my building the I AM BEAUTIFUL PROJECT and RED THREAD ADOPTION portfolio.   I will only be looking for models for the rest of April and not again until next year.  Red Thread Adoption sessions are available twice a month.   Contact me today so we can set your session up!

Just one more, because I can’t leave you without seeing a favorite of mine.  Krystle you are so regal and elegant in this shot (which is SOOC by the way).  Brides if you are interested in glamour shots in your wedding dress, contact me so we can set up your session today!

Wishing you all a blessed day!
