In September of 2013 I began to get very sick, lost over 12 pounds and could barely function. I was napping every day for hours. Which I never do. In October, I was diagnosed with Grave’s Disease. Most believe you can only heal or go into remission from traditional medicine and that you must follow everything they say to even begin to see a change in your adrenals and thyroid. I’m here to tell you that is not the case (if you are willing to make the necessary changes and work at making your health a top priority in your life – along with LOTS of prayer). I took it upon myself to become educated on why I developed Grave’s in the first place, what is available both traditionally and alternatively. Traditional medicine promised serious side effects and a life time of needing medicine. Alternative methods (naturally) offered me hope and control of taking back my health one choice at a time. Which began with another complete diet over-haul (Paleo 100% – here is my favorite Paleo cookbook) and to begin a new supplement regimen. I used several essential oils daily three times a day over my thyroid and adrenals and within weeks saw drastic changes in my health. I continued drinking my favorite protein shake to ensure I was getting enough of the proper nutrients each day, along with keeping my calorie intake up. My homeopath began to work with me on using a very specific remedy that is known to help heal hyperthyroid issues (please find a knowledgeable homeopath to work with and do NOT try to self diagnose). If you want to learn more about specific remedies for many health challenges you can click here. I see my chiropractor weekly to keep my body aligned which plays a huge role in our over-all health and the healing of the body. Then in late November when I was back to my original weight, I got the green light to begin my first 30 day challenge to get my strength back and to renew my faith in God who was with me every step of the way. I know that my prayers were answered because I could see changes in my life as I trusted in God more with every detail of my life. It wasn’t anything I was doing or that my prayers were grand or special – it was simply my eyes were off of me and onto God where they belonged anyway. And because of that, I changed. He remained the same as He always was and will be, faithful to those who put their hope and trust in Him.
I am currently two weeks into my second 30 day challenge of doing yoga, planks, rebounding, and praying/journaling each day.
Which leads me to why I want to invite all of you onto my life journey with Him – taking each day as a challenge from God to become more like Him through our thoughts, choices, and how we treat the gift of life from this moment forward.
Starting on February 1st I will be hosting 30 Day Challenges each month to encourage you toward healthy living all year long. No need for a New Year’s resolution when you are willing to resolve that today and every day forward I am going to be the change in this world I desire to see!
Our first challenge will be 30 days of inspiring thoughts to encourage healthy thinking patterns to release us from the past, which will enable us to be set set free to become who we all desire to be – our greatest selves! Our thoughts affect every area of our lives and we must be in control of them in order to live right here, right now, in this very moment with JOY, PEACE, HOPE, and LOVE!
Which leads me to this quote and why it is wrong, so very, very, very wrong.
Just because something makes you happy, does NOT mean it is the right thing to do or the right time to do it. No matter what anyone tells you – seeking happiness will NEVER fill you up for longer than the moment of happiness you reach.
Happiness is NOT sustainable in and of itself.
Depending on others and things you do to make you happy is not sustainable or good advice. It means if others aren’t willing to make you happy or don’t desire the same things you do – your happiness hinges on their choices. Not very wise.
Same with finding happiness in acquiring something you want vs... need. Because soon you will tire of that thing, it will get lost, broken, or old. Then you will not find happiness in it.
JOY however, is sustainable.
Because JOY comes from an everlasting source. Which you can’t produce on your own. No matter where you look or how hard you try. It doesn’t come from you or anyone or anything.
BUT true and lasting happiness COMES ONLY FROM GOD: "The Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; He also is become my salvation. THEREFORE WITH JOY shall you draw water out of the wells of salvation," Isaiah 12:2-3
Seek JOY my friends for it is set on solid ground! It is NOT fleeting and nothing can steal it from you – but you yourself when you seek things of this world before things of eternal value.
Breathe this truth in and let it give you a deep sense of JOY as you allow it to become your very next breath.
For the next two weeks, I will be praying the following prayer from the deepest part of my heart in preparation for our very first 30 day challenge together.
I hope you are willing to join me and link arms encouraging each other to live the healthiest year yet!
