Living Out My One Word - Trust

My one word for the year 2015 has been trust.
If you want to read my post about choosing the word trust, then click here.

It only took me eleven months and three days to finally achieve the fullness of this word, but hey I have told all of you I’m a really slow learner.  This doesn’t mean that I’m 100% there yet, but I made HUGE strides this year, especially during this last month.   Considering I’ve been walking with God for almost ten straight years, trust has obviously been a really hard lesson for me to learn.

Here is the most shocking revelation of all – it wasn’t what I thought or half as hard as I made it.

Trusting God, is a gift of faith and all I had (have) to do is cooperate with it.
I simply have to show up and allow Him to do His thing in and through me.

You see, the body of Christ is given something greater than anything this world could ever offer us – its an intangible tangible.   It’s a mystery the world will never be able to explain.   It’s so powerful nothing can stop it or change it.  It’s so beautiful nothing compares.

So what is it?

Perfect and pure love.

Which leads me to these awesome words of truth…

Sit with that last truth for a minute before you keep scrolling down.
Love is the measure of our faith, the inspiration for our obedience, and the true altitude of our discipleship.

That sums it all up rather neatly!

The next two truths need to be put into practice every single day of our lives.

Love when it is hard, because He is loving us right through the hard.

Love is a choice!  It is NOT a feeling.  It is a gift from God to every single person alive.  No matter what.  So is His mercy and grace!

Here is what I learned about trust this year…

God doesn’t have to do anything else to deserve my trust.   For example one might think or even say to God, “I’ll trust You, if…”
  • It means I’ll trust YOU God, no matter what.
  • It doesn’t mean having it my way or things going my way.
  • It doesn’t mean that life will be easy or tons of fun.
  • It means thanking Him for the daily things, the mundane things, the messy things, the loud and scary things, and the demanding things that we all face some time in our lives.
  • It means not asking Him to change my circumstances, but to help me trust in Him, as He gives me greater faith and grace to walk through them.
  • It means saying, “yes” to the life I am living.
  • It means saying, “yes” to the vocation I am in first and not seeking one that will only be a distraction for the one He has already called me to do joyfully with all that I am.
  • It means learning to love my normal and knowing that He is right smack dab in the middle of it.
  • It means not trying to live up to the standards or expectations of anyone else but God.
  • It means not trying to figure things out, but simply praying for guidance to stay the course as I walk with Him each day.
  • It means not needing to understand why, how, or when.  Because I TRUST that His timing and ways are perfect!

I’ve learned these things and so much more.  Like the following…

And this sums up my entire year…

Trusting God should always take us out of our comfort zones.   Because God is always calling us into the deep waters where our faith in Him is 100% necessary and our hope must be in Him alone.  Anything else is us doing it.  Anything less will cause us to get the glory.   And the beauty in trusting God is this…with God ALL things are possible

He wants us to grow in the image and likeness of His Son.  That can’t happen if we are always living in what we perceive to be our safety zone.  That can’t happen when we are leading the way.   Look at what God spoke through Job…

Job 42:1-6
“I know that You can do all things;
no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.
You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures My plans without knowledge?’
Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.
“You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak;
I will question you, and you shall answer Me.’
My ears had heard of You, but now my eyes have seen You.”

As I pray about what my word for 2016 is going to be, I believe it will look a lot like this…(click on the link to watch this video).

I’ll leave you with this and maybe you can save it somewhere that you can read it when doubt starts to creep in…
