Monday Morning Reflections – Yahweh Yireh

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 (58 kb)

Shema Yisrael

Last year I wrote this post and would like to share it with you again as tonight begins Passover once again.  It goes perfectly with our study of His names too!

Some of you may not know this but my husband and I grew up Jewish.  We both accepted Jesus as our Savior and Lord, only 5 yrs ago – him first and two months later I followed him straight to Jesus.   Our true sacrificial lamb.  Our redeemer!

As I opened up Ann’s book today I felt like I’m to share something more about God as Yahweh Yireh (yah-WEH yir-EH) the LORD who provides for me.

God’s timing is always perfect.  How interesting I come to this name as our family is about to celebrate Passover tonight with many who have yet to see Jesus as their perfect sacrifice by God.  The One who paid the price by His blood and is waiting to save them from being separated from God and from death for all of eternity.  God’s ultimate provision for them and for all who will accept the free gift of salvation!

Let’s remember that the entire bible tells a story – not just any story – but one about love and redemption from the very beginning to the very last page.  The story is not just any love story either – it is God’s love for all mankind!    Every story whispers the name of Jesus.  Through prophecy or foreshadowing.   We have a wonderful book for our children called the Jesus Storybook Bible that helps them understand that from beginning to end Jesus was there!   We all enjoy reading it!

John 1:1 says,

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God. “

So you see Jesus was always there, and the greatest part of this story is He will always be there!   The stories of Abraham, Moses, the Jews being freed from Egypt, then their firstborns being protected and feed in the dessert for 40 years are all stories that point to Jesus as the true sacrifice and provider (Giver) of life.

Back to our reading today and how God provided for Abraham – Genesis 22:1-2

Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, "Abraham!"
      "Here I am," he replied.

2 Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."

I have often wondered what it felt like for Abraham to pack up everything needed for the sacrifice of his son Isaac.  Then to walk many miles to Moriah and be asked by Isaac, “Father where is the lamb for our sacrifice?”   What I love the most is Abraham’s answer.

“God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.”  Genesis 22:8

Abraham trusted that God would provide for him.   He didn’t know how and surely couldn’t see a substitute for his son, but deep inside his relationship with God told him to trust in God to provide as He always had!    That is faith!

Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

I think about all the ways God has provided for us and my heart aches because I’m positive I was not faithful to trust in Him as I should.  Yet, I know that through all the times I was faithless – He was completely 100% faithful.   When I doubted, God would use a situation to test me and grow me in my faith, thus rebuilding my trust in Him.

As I taught through John 6 yesterday at Sunday school   – I fought back the tears once again.  Why?  Because why do we like the Jews and people 1,600 yrs ago keep needing signs that He is WHO HE SAYS HE IS?   Why do we question His faithfulness?  Why do we question His love for us?  Why do we question His ability to provide for us?  Why do we ask Him to show us how He will provide vs simply trusting He will do it in His perfect way and timing?

Listen to what Jesus has to say about how He will provide and what our only “work” must be…

26Jesus answered them and said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.

27"Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal."

28Therefore they said to Him, "What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?"

29Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent."

30So they said to Him, "What then do You do for a sign, so that we may see, and believe You? What work do You perform?

31"Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, 'HE GAVE THEM BREAD OUT OF HEAVEN TO EAT.'"

32Jesus then said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the true bread out of heaven.

33"For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world."

34Then they said to Him, "Lord, always give us this bread."

35Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.

36"But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe.

37"All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.

38"For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

39"This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.

40"For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day."

Again, I am told, “Jill believe in Me.  Trust in Me.  Obey Me.  I will do it all.  You just need to ask, seek and knock upon My door daily.”

Think God is trying to tell me something?

I am a slow learner and one of His dumbest sheep.   It has only taken 5 yrs and 5 weeks of this study to finally get this point into my heart.  My mind has known this for way too long.  I have been praying for all the knowledge and even wisdom given to me – to make it to my heart fully, completely.  Why? Because the one thing I have wanted for so long is to rest in Him and receive His peace, while His grace is at work in my life!  I only need to believe in Him.  The rest is up to Him.  He is faithful.  He is the promise maker and keeper!  I only need to trust in them and put all of my faith in Him.   Him alone!

It is Jesus + NOTHING!   Jesus paid the price in full.  One time and it is done!   We don’t have to work to be approved of God.

As we dig deeper this week into the study of His name as Yahweh Yireh let us remember, we are praying to the God who sees the situation beforehand and is able to provide for our needs.   Let us trust that He will do it.  Let us trust in the way He does it.  Let us trust in when He will do it.   Please pray for Israel and all those who have yet to accept the saving knowledge of God’s Son.

Father, as we celebrate this holy week, let our minds and hearts be fully fixed on You and You alone.  Let us not forget all the ways You have provided for our every need.  Let us not forget how You gave Your one and only Son to pay the price for all mankind’s penalty of sin – set us all free and offer eternity with you to all.  We simply must accept His priceless gift and receive all that You so graciously give to those who believe.  Father, please open the eyes and hearts of all those who yet know You intimately as the ONE TRUE AND LIVING GOD.  Help them to believe. Thank You for the Bible and all the stories You made sure we could read to learn about You, Your love and faithfulness! Father, I am forever grateful You provided “a way” for all to be with You in heaven for eternity.  Thank You!  Thank You for Your never changing, ending and always life changing LOVE!  I praise Your holy name today!  May I bring honor and glory to You forever in all I say and do.  I love You!   In Jesus’ most blessed name I pray.  Amen!
