Monday Morning Reflections - Maturity

I haven’t written one of these in a while.   Goodness I have so many thoughts running through my head.    The past week God has not only shown Himself beyond faithful once again in our lives – but His grace was completely sufficient for all that we faced!

When I wrote my post on Saturday called Mighty Fortress my heart ached for those who yet know God as their protector, provider, and Jesus as their High Priest.

You see it is only when we walk through the valley, back onto the mountain tops and through the valleys once again will we get to see God’s glory in all its fullness in our lives.

God has been showing us literally what it ‘feels’ like and ‘looks’ like to walk by faith the last year.   Recently our faith walk has taken us on paths that we must keep our eyes completely focused on Him or our feet will surely slip.    There are days where we think our footing is sure and then we get a little comfortable – only for God to show us that path is weak and is NOT the one I have for you.   “Step closer to me”.  “Walk this way,” His soft voice calls.    And so we turn right to where He is calling us.

Neither of know where this path is leading.  But we both know wherever it is going to end up the PATH IS RIGHT AND GOOD!   We trust in His plans for us.

I have been praying for weeks now on the Teen Talk Tuesday post for tomorrow and next months topic of modesty.    With every church I visit and every place I go my heart is completely broken for this generation and the body of Christ.

I taught the children Romans 12:1-2 on Friday morning.   We broke it down word by word and then I explained what it means to be a living sacrifice for God and to lead a holy life.   It is our reasonable service with all that God has done for us and continues to do daily in our lives.

You woke up today.  Right?

Then God has already done more for you then you deserve.   He holds you ever breath and number of days in His hand.   He alone knows the day when you will no longer walk this earth.

That’s not a popular thing to say or hear.  But that doesn’t change the truth.

What can change you is knowing and living and breathing The Truth into your heart every single day.

We are to be a light – not a dim night light but a BEACON of light in the world and our lives should be an example of Christ.

Not popular to hear or say either.

Too many want to live ‘their way’ and how they believe is OK regardless of whether or not they are truly representing Christ in how they dress, the way they speak, the things they do, how they spend their time and worse how they walk through trials in their lives.

When you call people to live for Christ – truly live for Him – they start throwing the word legalistic around.   They start saying that is not ‘realistic’ to live a consecrated life for Christ.

I beg to differ!

I’m going to be ‘realistic NOT legalistic’ as I share The Truth about topics that I pray more of us will speak about to our children, friends, family and the youth in our lives.

The next generation needs to see us being the change they hear we claim to desire.

It won’t happen if we all don’t become a living sacrifice unto the Lord.

We can ONLY serve one Master.

We can ONLY be His friend or enemy.

We can ONLY be lovers of God or of the world.

You can’t be both!

I watched this video two weeks ago and it gave me much to think about and then I spent time with God…praying for any area in my life that pride is standing in the way of His glory.’

In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God's word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.  Hebrews 5:12-16

This is the level of maturity that God wants from us:  A perfect faith. The only way to perfect our relationship with God and improve our walk in holiness is do it by faith and obedience to His word.

God does not command where He does not provide or empower.

  1. God works faith in the believer (John 6:29).
  2. God has given everyone a measure of faith (Rom. 12:3).
  3. "But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves," (James 1:22).

We can mature and grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus.  It is a choice!

The word in Greek for maturity or perfection here is ''teleiotes.'' It comes from the Greek word ''telos'' which means 1) to make perfect, to carry through completely, to accomplish, finish, bring to an end, to accomplish.

Phil. 1:6 says, "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus."

Sacrifice, obedience to God, distinguishing good from evil, all are perfected in love. All are only possible in love.

  • Jesus told us what the first and greatest commandment is. He said, "''Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'' 39And the second is like it: ''Love your neighbor as yourself.''" (Matt. 22:37,39).
  • Jesus also said, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13:34-35).

In infancy there is selfishness, quarreling, arguments, divisions, un-reconciled relationships, unforgiven memories, and all such sins.

In maturity there is unity, reconciliation, healing, and of course, the manifestation of the love of Christ.

Are you manifesting the true maturity that God wants of you? Are you seeking to grow in the grace, knowledge, and love of God?

It is not mere doctrine that makes one mature. It is living the love of God in your heart, words, and deeds.

Will you pray for me and I will pray for you – to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior?   Will you pray for our family to walk worthy of the calling before us?   Will you pray for our family to seek The Truth above all things and to live like Jesus more and more each day!?

How can I pray for you today?
