This month's topic of "Girl Talk" fits perfectly with my life. As a youth pastor's wife, I am in constant contact with teenage girls. I have to say that I am blessed with a group of great girls and for the most part, they love one another and build one another up. At other times we have to put this verse before them:

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.”  Ephesians 4:29

What I have to constantly remind our teens is, if you claim to be a Christian, every action/thought/word needs to be filtered through your "Jesus Filter". We were made for no other purpose but to glorify God. Glorifying God does not include gossiping about people, or saying hurtful things to someone. Glorifying God is loving people unconditionally and being the body of Christ to those who may not know Him...

You'll never be able to get away from the gossip that goes on in the school cafeteria or even the work place, but you have a Helper that many people don't in order to turn away from what the world says is okay. Let us make a commitment today to turn away from the gossip and hateful speech that tear so many people down.

If you personally struggle with hurting others with your words, and I believe we all do at some point, I ask that you get on your knees and ask the Lord to take that away from you. Ask Him to give you a new heart and a new mind for "what is good for building up" others. I've seen Him take sinful actions away from me and I promise He can and will do the same for you!

Thank you Christie for this awesome reminder to tame our tongues and only speaking words that build each other up.
